Two of the best ever trumpet/flugelhorn players, filmed live : the Clark Terry Quintet featuring Duke Jordan at the Club Montmartre, Copenhagen, in 1985; and Shorty Rogers and His Giants featuring Lou Levy & Joe Maini, filmed at twAmerican TV shows in 1962. Clark Terry, star trumpeter with the orchestras of Ellington, Basie, Quincy Jones and Charlie Barnet, amongst others, is seen here playing in a quartet. Shorty Rogers appears with twdifferent line-ups, including Gary LeFebvre, a 27-year-old Gary Peacock, Mel Lewis, Pete Jolly and Larry Bunker (shortly before the drummer began his long association with Bill Evans). The second show is valuable in that it offers a rare chance twatch the outstanding altsaxophonist Joe Maini (1930-1964) - even though the image quality is less than perfect. Mainri was a friend and disciple of Charlie Parker, but died tragically at 34, while apparently playing Russian roulette. This show appears here on DVD for the first time ever.
