Born in Milan in 1962, Elena Càsoli was a first-class graduate of the Verdi Conservatory and international prizewinner. She has performed in Europe, South America, and Japan, and has specialized in music by three of America's most important composers. This disc is devoted to guitar music by three of America’s most important composers, all of whom met with Càsoli and discussed each piece and its proper interpretation with her. Pioneering minimalist composer Terry Riley had a special attraction to Spanish-flavored guitar music. Ascension, Barabas and Piedad are elements of an extended, and rarely recorded, series of works for guitar brought together under the evocative (and apparently contrived) title The Book of Abbeyozzud.
“A beautiful disc in which we can admire the remarkable technical and artistic dowries of the author, but also her intelligence.” — All About Jazz (Italy) |
