Cuban bandleader, vocalist and maracas player Frank Grillo (aka Machito) is featured here with his recordings from 1941-51. These years saw the marriage of bebop and the Latin Cuban rhythms and Machito was the king of this Cubop.
The complex yet dynamic and very danceable rhythms fire all the tracks and great soloists like Chano Pozo and Charlie Parker are featured, with vocals by Machito, his sister Graciela and even a young Harry Belafonte.
