In 1969 I rented an old farmhouse ninety miles from Manhattan on three hundred acres of New Jersey pastureland and began hosting frequent jam sessions. The house became a point of encounter for musicians interested in these free-form musicales and eventually the Mike Melillo Trio with bassist Roy Cumming and drummer Glenn Davis was born.

Private recordings of the Trio have been made over the years without publication until recently Paolo Piangiarelli of Philology records asked to issue a session we recorded at a small studio in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, titled "Detour Ahead".

Subsequently artist friend Hideaki Kawano offered to design the graphics and this "family project" was realized.
