Veteran pianist Eddie Higgins is one of the most well-known jazz pianists in Japan, thanks to his numerous albums released by Venus Records. His adventure continues with this very special album that consists entirely of his own compositions. While he is primarily known as the master interpreter of standards and the American Songbook, his compositions have graced many albums over the years such as Wayne Shorter's Wayning Moments and Lee Morgan's Expubident.

This first collection of Higgins' originals is organized as a sort of a road movie, which takes the listener to many places in the world where Higgins has visited and was musically inspired. Even long-time fans of Higgis will be surprised by the quality and diversity of his compositions. They are all lovely, sounding as if they belong with well-known standards, and many have memorable melodies.

Higgins' regular partners -- Jay Leonhart on bass and Joe Ascione on drums -- provide impeccable support and help make this album a pleasure to listen to. The typically big, powerful sound of this Venus release is further enhanced by their decision to adopt the latest CD formulation called HQCD (see below). Recommended for audiophiles and fans of elegant, swinging piano jazz!

HQCD (High Quality CD) is a new CD formulation developed by EMI Music Japan. The higher quality polycarbonate material developed for LCD panels and specially formulated amalgam -- instead of regular alumunum -- in its reflective layer improve the sound quality by reducing reading errors in playback. It is compatible with all regular CD players.
