This Spanish issue of Charlie Parker's Complete Savoy Masters is a straight reissue of the American version and contains the same bonus tracks. The music here is unassailable not only in terms of its historicism -- many prefer the Savoy tapes to the Dial sessions -- but in terms of the sheer fluidity and audacity of its performances. At this point in time, Bird -- with Tiny Grimes, Fats Navarro, and Miles Davis, among others -- had perfected his new music and was taking as many chances as he possibly could with its development. Many of the great bop classics are here, such as "Groovin' High," "Ah-Leu-Cha," "Little Willie Leaps," "Barbados," "Parker's Mood," "Milestones," "Koko" (two versions), "Romance Without Finance," "Sippin' at Bells," and many others. This set also marks the first published and recorded compositions of Miles Davis. The American version contains far more exhaustive liner notes, but if it's the music that you're after, this one is priced more reasonably.
