This long sought-after album, Air Raid, was recorded almost a year after the first session Air Song for Japanese Masahiko Yuh's Why Not label, on July 15th 1976. The session once again features Henry Threadgill throughout as the main lead instrument. Threadgill switches between Chinese musette, also saxophone, flute and hubkaphone (a percussive instrument that he put together using hubcaps) as well as contributing all four original compositions. The group, who were heavily associated with the famous AACM enterprise, display a close interaction between Threadgill, Fred Hopkins on bass and Steve McCall on percussion.

All tracks are great, but the song "Midnight Sun," with one of Henry's most soulful alto parts and a thoroughly burning Fred Hopkins bass line, makes this a must-purchase. One of the best Air tracks on a overall very good album.

More intense, edgy and rough than their debut, with a couple of grippingly beautiful melodic tunes too.
