The Sweetest Thing |

Vancouver quartet Talking Pictures, led by guitarist Ron Samworth, worked together with Seattle's Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz on this program of songs and instrumental pieces (mostly) by Robin performed by the sextet.
Holcomb's Nonesuch and Tzadik releases have been acclaimed both for her visionary, often dark songwriting and her vocal and pianistic style this release places both in an intriguing new context. Talking Pictures includes frequent Holcomb/Horvitz collaborators Peggy Lee and Dylan van der Schyff, and the sextet really gels, improvising with dexterity, wit and feeling. The program also includes a Neil Young cover as well as new songs by Samworth and Lee. Wayne produced with great care, and the sound quality is outstanding.
