The Complete Benny In Brussels

All known recordings from Benny Goodman’s successful one-week presentation at the 1958 Brussels World Fair. It is presented here for the first time ever on a single set, and includes the original twovolume album Benny in Brussels (Columbia C2L 16, first issued on two separate LPs, CL1247 and CL1248) as well as all further material from that week (which has been previously issued on a variety of different sources).

Besides Goodman’s brilliant playing, highlights include the presence of such stars as Jimmy Rushing, Zoot Sims, Taft Jordan and pianist Roland Hanna (who was still unknown at the time). Includes 16-page booklet

Benny Goodman went to Europe many times, and his ventures to the Old Continent were extremely successful. One of these visits consisted of his one-week participation in the American section of the Brussels 1958 World Fair. He went with his big band (but also performed some songs in smaller formats), to which the celebrated singer Jimmy Rushing was added as a special attraction. The band was very warmly received, and many of their performances there were preserved for posterity. The group’s overwhelming success led Columbia to acquire part of the recordings originally made by the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company and to release two different LPs titled Benny in Brussels Vol.1 and Vol.2, which were later compiled into a single 2-LP set.
