Outstanding live performance from the mid-eighties recorded live at the Orpheus Theatre in Athens, Greece. Here Ra and an inspired Arkestra (featuring saxophonists Marshall Allen, John Gilmore and Danny Ray Thompson as well as trumpeter Ronnie Brown) test the outer limits of the new, without forgetting to pay their dues to the old. Alongside his own more avant-garde numbers, Ra showcases a whole slew of jazz standards, like “Satin Doll” and “Mack The Knife”. This was not unusual for Ra who believed in using his concerts to “school” audiences about the roots of jazz while taking them on an intergalactic musical and visual journey.Gatefold deluxe edition.
