Solo debut of former e.s.t. drummer Magnus Öström. Features special guests Pat Metheney & Dan Berglund. Öström joined up with his old friend, sound engineer Janne Hansson, to record some brand-new compositions he had written during the period following Esbjörn Svensson’s untimely passing and the dissolution of e.s.t. Although Öström’s distinctive grooves and circular way of playing with dynamics may remind you of e.s.t., Thread of Life sounds fundamentally different as Öström focuses on sounds instead of melodies. The extremely diverse electronic effects, vocal parts, and guitar sounds featured here are closer to art rock or jazz-rock. If e.s.t. were a pop band playing jazz, Öström’s project could be described as a rock band playing jazz.
