An uncompromising tribute to the masters (Coltrane, Ayler, and Coleman) featuring NEA Jazz Master and sax legend Dave Liebman and guitar hero Marc Ribot!
Dave Liebman is a renaissance man in contemporary music, with a career stretching over 40 years. This tribute to some of the masters of jazz — John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, and Ornette Coleman — features the NEA Jazz Master alongside guitar hero Marc Ribot. Liebman’s career has spanned over four decades, beginning in the 1970s as the saxophone/flautist in both the Elvin Jones and Miles Davis Groups, and continuing as a leader since. He has played on nearly 300 recordings, with over 100 under his leadership or co-leadership. Awards include the NEA Masters of Jazz (2011), Jazz Journalist’s Award for Soprano Saxophone (2007), and Grammy® Nomination for Best Jazz Solo, among others. Currently Artist in Residence at the Manhattan School of Music, Liebman has consistently placed in the top three for Soprano Sax in the DownBeat Critic’s Poll since 1973, winning first place in both the DownBeat (2011) and JazzTimes Critic’s Polls (2011, 2012). |
