| The Kinks 1971 classic, Muswell Hillbillies is viewed by many to be the greatest of all Kinks albums. Roots, blues and British Music hall are all combined here in an unplugged-style showcase of the band's vastly underrated instrumental talents. The theme of Muswell Hillbillies was about getting back to the roots and it was Ray and Dave Davies' own roots, in London's Muswell Hill neighborhood, that inspired Ray to write the album. "20th Century Man," "Holiday" and "Here Come the People in Gray" address the issues of working-class characters and demonstrate Ray Davies's narrative writing style which he would continue through much of the '70s. |
