Signed by 4AD and releasing their first album in 1984, Dead Can Dance drew rapturous reviews for albums that spanned neo-classical and folk across time and geography, each album selling to a progressively larger audience. Dead Can Dance's third album, Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun was originally released in the summer of 1987 and is comprised of eight songs recorded at Woodbine Studios.
This was an intense period of musical and personal growth for the duo, which culminated in Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry writing pieces for a concert in St Peters church in Vauxhall, London. Gerrard's contribution to this once-in-a-lifetime event was the track "Persephone (The Gathering Of The Flowers)," the album's closing track.
The whole album combines superb voice, ethereal church choirs, sweeping strings and a brochure of ethnic music: Middle Eastern, Indian, Moorish, anywhere but London's East End where the couple actually resided at the time. Remastered from the original tapes and pressed on high quality 180g vinyl! |
