South African jazz legend Sathima Bea Benjamin's 2002 album "Musical Echoes" is now available here for the first time in the U.S. in 2006. Bringing longtime pianist and collaborator Stephen Scott to Cape Town with her, Sathima teamed up with two South African musicians - bassist Basil Moses and drummer Lulu Gontsana - to create this beautiful mix of standards and one original composition. The album features the dreamy, slow-tempo rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" and the up-tempo piano-less "Falling In Love With You" that features the "ghoema" rhythm of South Africa. Throughout her career, Sathima has recorded 11 albums, earned a Grammy nomination, and in 2004 received the "Order Of Ikhamanga," South Africa's highest honor.
