4-CD box set imported from France. Recorded on May 11, 2009 at Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Bards College, Annondale-on-Hudson, New York.
“It was magical from the beginning. The music seemed to create itself"
"We trusted our spontaneity, our intuitive logic, our sense of form."
“We had no set tempos, no preconception about soloing or accompanying.”
“We had no set themes or referents. What we did have was complete trust, in each other and in the music.”
“Playing through the day, we recorded twenty-eight pieces. We did listen together for many months, before we accepted that the entire recording session produced a single, cohesive work.”
“During the recording session, we switched pianos every two to four improvisations. Listening back, we discovered that we had created distinct suites of pieces each time we traded pianos.”
"These four CDs present the entire recording session, in order, from our first note to the last note." Connie Crothers, David Arner

This is a very special work for all Portuguese jazz fans, not only because of historical reasons, but also emotional ones. At the end of the dictatorship, “Estilhaços” had the emblematic power to represent freedom in music: it was recorded live during a Lisbon concert in the beginning of 1972 (the revolution happened two years later, in 1974), being the first jazz record released in Portugal. What can seem strange is easily explainable: for the authorities, jazz was a decadent black music. An iniciative of the radialist and critic José Duarte, produced by the former jazz drummer and also critic Manuel Jorge Veloso, it shows us the Steve Lacy Quintet, with Steve Potts, Irene Aebi, Kent Carter and Noel McGhie, at the top of its qualities. The original vinyl had only one CD reedition before, in 1996, but an opportunity to be distributed worldwide never aroused. Justice is now provided. For the non-Portuguese Lacy’s followers, this 40 year old recording may be another reminder of a well-documented period of the soprano saxophonist’s music, but take in consideration that it’s also an unique and very special symbol.

The Minimal Piano Collection for one piano (BC8551) ended with “In C” by Terry Riley. Many of the composers on this new 11 Cd box have stated that this particular piece was a starting point for them to compose in a new way, exploring the ways that were created, the spaces between the notes, the emptiness, the freedom.
Elizabeth Bergmann & Marcel Bergmann, Tamara Rumiantsev and Sandra van Veen & Jeroen van Veen recorded 83 compositions. From two pianos up to six pianos, from Steve Reich ‘standard’ Pianophase to Six Pianos.
The composers on this new box are John Adams, Jurriaan Andriessen, Louis Andriessen, Marcel Bergmann, William Duckworth, Julius Eastman, Douwe Eisenga, Morton Feldman, Graham Fitkin, Joep Franssens, Kyle Gann, Philip Glass, Gabriel Jackson, Tom Johnson, Simeon ten Holt, David Lang, Colin McPhee, Chiel Meijering, Wim Mertens, John Metcalf, Carlos Michans, Meredith Monk, Arvo Pärt, Michael Parsons, Alexander Rabinovitch, Steve Reich, Frederic Rzewski, Tim Seddon, Jeroen van Veen, Jacob ter Veldhuis and Kevin Volans.
On the included Cd-ROM you can find all the biographies, background information and some sheet music. Van Veen recorded many pieces on his own using multi track technique.
This set will not only please the customers who bought the white box, but also anyone looking for interesting music from American, British, Canadian, Dutch and many more composers who wrote beautiful tonal repetitive music for two or more pianos. Many customers use the Minimal Collection to get inspired, or to work with or simply to enjoy.
Get carried away by the new black box; 854 minutes of wonderful music, enjoy the Minimal Piano Collection, let the journey begin including a few recording premieres!

Mastered from the Original Arista/Grateful Dead Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso with Kevin Gray
The iconic Grateful Dead recorded their final studio album Built To Last for Arista Records in 1989. Featuring the great line-up of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzman, Mickey Hart and Brent Midland, Built To Last was a successful snapshot of a much loved band whose legacy continues to grow and attract new legions of fans every day.
Filled with eight new compositions from Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, Bob Weir and Brent Midland, The Grateful Dead’s Built To Last offers a stunning view of a very popular band’s experimentation and wizardry in the studio setting. Produced by Jerry Garcia and John Cutler, the original vinyl album was very scarce as the compact disc was the new medium of choice. With very few quantities of the vinyl album produced, Built To Last soon became a collector’s item.
Now for the first time ever on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl, Friday Music presents the limited edition Grateful Dead authorized release of Built To Last. Mastered for vinyl from the original Arista/Grateful Dead Records tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray, this wonderful album is truly a welcome addition to your Dead collection.
Brilliant tunes like the Top Ten charting rock single "Foolish Heart" feature the warm and familiar voice and guitar of the legendary Jerry Garcia as well as the lyrics of Robert Hunter. Together this team offered several more gems like the stellar ballad "Standing On The Moon" and of course the epic title track "Built To Last," which is truly a perfect motto and track that signifies the importance of this American institution.
Bob Weir delivers two very strong tracks including the funk rocker "Picasso Moon" which hauntingly has a Live At The Mars Hotel quality to it, thanks to the clever guitar and piano hooks throughout. Plus his "Victim Or The Crime" continues Weir’s arsenal of great album tracks that have continued to enlighten fans with each and every album he soulfully contributed to.
Brent Midland also contributes several of the more hard rocking tracks like "Blow Away" and "Just A Little Light," which truly showcase his artistic keyboard work and soulful vocals.
Sadly, the all too soon passing of both Jerry Garcia and Brent Midland made Built To Last the final studio album from the Grateful Dead, a band who continues to be an important musical force at retail, radio and of course the live concert business in various incarnations.
The Grateful Dead’s Built To Last album will be packaged in a poly bag to preserve the rich details of the legendary cover art as well as a poly lined inner sleeve to protect the vinyl LP.
